NEW COMMIT: Beaumont, Texas native Keith Elgar has announced his commitment to the University of Niagara and will suit up for the Purple Eagles at the start of the 2021-22 season.
He told Swimming World:
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Niagara. I would like to thank God, all of my coaches, teachers, teammates, friends, and most importantly, my family, for their continuous support and belief in me. I am so blessed to have the opportunity to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Niagara. Go Purple Eagles! ”
Elgar, who does his club swimming with Swim Houston Aquatics Center for coach Gilbert Legaspi, finaled in two events at the Gulf Short Course Championships back in February. Last December, he recorded three best times at the KMS Pro-Am Classic after posting five top-14 finishes at the 13&O Gulf Championships.
His best times include:
100 breast – 1:00.58
200 breast – 2:14.51
100 fly – 55.59
200 fly – 2:01.24
200 IM – 2:03.67
Also competing for Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School, Elgar is a six-time individual TAPPS DI State Championship finalist. He grabbed silver in the 100 breast and bronze in the 200 IM as a junior while taking third and fourth, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season.
Elgar will add valuable depth in a number of different events when he arrives on campus as a member of the Class of 2025. He would’ve ranked second on the team last year in the 100/200 breast and third in the 100/200 fly and 200 IM.
